How do you do 144MPH with a stock WR250R? (10/24/2009)

....Well....You start by getting access to one of these in San Diego...

picture279-1024

....and then you find a guy like this.....

picture007-1024

...you'll also need access to a good Autopilot system...

picture011-1024

Because you'll be flying for a couple hours in a straight line over the desert....

picture010-1024

....and probably crossing over the Colorado river....
picture020-1024

...and because a couple hours later you'll likely land at a place like this... (Kingman AZ Airport)...

picture022-1024

...you'll probably need your good friend George's wife to pick you up at the airport and take you back to "The Catt House" where the WRR has been stashed for the last month...

picture032-1024

Now pay attention...confidence will be needed....

picture036-1024

...because your pilot will likely tell you .....

picture037-1024
...in no uncertain terms....
picture038-1024
....that there is no way in hell....
picture039-1024
...that this thing is going to fit in his plane!!
picture040-1024

...butt...

picture041-1024

...after applying a good dose of persistence....

picture042-1024

...some creative thinking...

picture043-1024

...and many swear words....

picture044-1024

....well I guess one can make a WRR fit in the back of a Cherokee 6!!!

picture046-1024

...but Bill still seems a bit skeptical....

picture056-1024

Yup...still back there...
picture052-1024

...and what do we have here...?

picture059-1024

...and can we consider this mission a success?

It would seem so....

I got an email from John last week that he didn't get enough DS action in Big Bear last weekend, so he decided to "organize" a San Diego ride. I met the guys at the Eastlake Mobile 1 gas station... 001.jpg

Apparently Todd invited some friends but forgot to tell them to mount the knobbies... 002.jpg

Squid alert!!

003.jpg
So we hit the open road... 005.jpg

And so did this guy...

042.jpg

This was a first. I've never seen someone wipe out on a straight road. Obviously, this cat is an over achiever!

Not one to waste a good segway...I appologize for skipping ahead a bit...

So on we went to one of Todd's favorite breakfast spots...

007.jpg

The bikes...

008.jpg

The food...

012.jpg

More food!

013.jpg
Apparently they also serve seafood...
014.jpg

After breakfast we started the ascent...

015.jpg

Nice!

016.jpg

The colonel wouldn't stop complaining...he was really having a bad day...he probably should have stayed home... 020.jpg

A bit farther up the hill we encountered our first challenge. John obviously forgot his tri-focals... 021.jpg

The older members of the group wanted to turn around...

023.jpg

But with a little encouragement...

We continued the climb into julian...

030.jpg

And met up with some guys on a 5 month hiking tour from California to Washington...

040.jpg

After a nice rest (and some entertainment with the squid crash...) it was time to hit the trail again!

046.jpg

And hit the trail we did!

044.jpg

049.jpg

We rode for another few miles until John needed to feed his habit...

043.jpg

054.jpg

Given the current economic situation, Todd finds it necessary to get every last millimeter of tread out of his $36 tires...

053.jpg

056.jpg

And a little farther up the trail is "The Oak"...

059.jpg

And then it was back to Todd's place for some after ride Scotch and some routine BS'ing...

067.jpg

Ever notice that Todd sits like a girl?

066.jpg

It was a great day with great friends!
